Senior Backend Engineer – Node.js / AWS

For a leading organisation in South Holland, Morgan Black is looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer with a strong background in Node.js, TypeScript and AWS Serverless.

You will join a technically complex backend environment and work on scalable, cloud-native solutions and distributed systems. This role is particularly suited to a senior engineer who not only enjoys building software, but also understands the architectural decisions behind it and can explain why certain technologies and approaches are used.

The role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining scalable backend services within a modern AWS environment.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Designing and developing complex backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
  • Building scalable, cloud-native solutions within AWS
  • Developing serverless applications using AWS Lambda
  • Designing and implementing workflows with AWS Step Functions
  • Working with MongoDB in distributed backend environments
  • Designing event-driven and distributed architectures
  • Making and explaining technical and architectural decisions
  • Ensuring solutions remain scalable, stable, observable and maintainable

What we are looking for

We are looking for a senior engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of technically complex backend solutions.

You have strong hands-on experience with:

  • Node.js
  • TypeScript
  • AWS
  • Serverless architectures
  • AWS Lambda
  • AWS Step Functions
  • MongoDB
  • Event-driven and distributed systems

Experience designing or building solutions from A to Z is highly valued. You should be able to discuss architectural choices, trade-offs and the reasoning behind your technical decisions.

Assignment details

Location: South Holland / Hybrid
Hours: 32–40 hours per week
Start date: To be discussed
Duration: 6 months, with possibility of extension
